How to share a Wi-Fi password on iPhone or Android
Share Wi-Fi securely with a nearby device using Apple's password prompt, a QR code on Android, or a saved password.
Share Wi-Fi from iPhone
Keep both Apple devices nearby with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth turned on. Unlock the iPhone already connected to the network. On the other iPhone, iPad, or Mac, select that Wi-Fi network. Tap Share Password on the connected iPhone, then Done.
For Apple's automatic prompt, both people should be signed in to their Apple Accounts and have each other's Apple Account email or phone number saved in Contacts. Personal Hotspot should be off.
Find and copy a saved iPhone password
Open the Passwords app, authenticate, tap Wi-Fi, choose the network, then tap the password field. You can copy the password and send it another way if the sharing prompt does not appear.
Only share a private network password with people you trust. Anyone who has it may reconnect later until the router password is changed.
Share Wi-Fi from Android
Open Settings, tap Network & internet and Internet, select the connected Wi-Fi network, then tap Share. Unlock the phone if asked. Android displays a QR code that the other device can scan.
Manufacturers may label the menu Wi-Fi, Connections, or QR code. If you cannot find it, search Settings for Wi-Fi or Share network.
If sharing does not work
Move the devices close together, confirm the sharing phone is connected to the correct network, and turn Wi-Fi and Bluetooth off and back on. Restart both devices if the prompt never appears.
Guest networks, business networks, captive portals, and networks that require a username may not support ordinary password or QR sharing.
Frequently asked questions
Can an iPhone share Wi-Fi with Android?
The Apple pop-up is designed for Apple devices. You can instead reveal and copy the saved password, or scan a QR code created by the router or another trusted tool.
Why does Share Password not appear on iPhone?
Check that both devices are nearby, unlocked, have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on, and have the appropriate Apple Account contact information saved.
Does an Android QR code reveal the password?
It contains the network credentials needed to connect, so show it only to people you trust.
