How to clear cache on iPhone or Android
Clear Safari, Chrome, or an Android app cache safely and understand what happens to passwords, history, and saved data.
Clear Safari cache on iPhone
Open Settings, tap Apps, choose Safari, then tap Clear History and Website Data. Select the timeframe and confirm. This removes Safari history, cookies, and cached website files but does not change AutoFill information.
To remove website data while keeping history, go to Settings > Apps > Safari > Advanced > Website Data, then remove selected sites or all website data. Website sign-ins may be cleared.
Clear an app cache on Android
Open Settings, tap Apps, select the problem app, then choose Storage & cache and Clear cache. Names may vary slightly by phone brand. This removes temporary files and normally keeps your account and personal app data.
Do not tap Clear storage or Clear data unless you intend to reset the app. That stronger option can remove settings, downloads, and sign-in information stored by the app.
Clear Chrome browsing cache
In Chrome, open the menu, choose Delete browsing data, select a time range, and choose Cached images and files. Select cookies or browsing history only if you also want those removed.
Clearing cookies can sign you out of websites. Clearing cached images and files may make pages load a little slower the first time you revisit them because the browser must download those files again.
When clearing cache helps
A cache clear can help when a website shows an old version, an app repeatedly crashes, images do not load correctly, or temporary files use too much space. It is a troubleshooting step, not routine maintenance that must be done every day.
If the issue continues, restart the app or phone, install updates, check the internet connection, and confirm that the service itself is not down.
Frequently asked questions
Will clearing cache delete my photos?
No. Clearing a browser or app cache should not delete photos stored in your photo library.
Will clearing cache delete passwords?
Cached files alone do not contain your saved passwords, but clearing cookies or app data can sign you out. Read the selected options before confirming.
Is Clear cache the same as Clear data on Android?
No. Clear cache removes temporary files; Clear data or Clear storage resets the app more completely.
